Goethe’s poem “Erlkönig” has often been set to music. Franz Schubert wrote his Lied “Erlkönig” for solo voice and piano at the age of 17 or 18. Joshua Brown performs a version for solo violin.

Robert Schumann wrote this piece in 1849 as part of Three Romances for Oboe and Piano, which was as a gift to his wife Clara Schumann. Today trombonist Mohamed Gamal performs the piece with pianist Angela Boutros.

I saw her perform Rach 2 in the main hall in April this year. A wonderful performance with an encore of Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini. This lovely room she is in here is where I visited at half time and the conductor Maestro Jules was giving a short talk on Rachmaninov standing on a box.❤
